Social Daily Deal Marketing Services
![]()
Daily Deal Marketing is where vendors offer daily deals on local products and services to consumers. Savings usually range between 20% to 50% off the normal price. These ads are free, with the daily deal vendor & the seller doing a split of the revenue that comes in. However, making & managing the ad process can be confusing for many & the ad responses can be overwhelming.
It Started with Groupon
Groupon is the largest and most powerful of the daily deals industry, having been the first (significant) compan
y in this area. A recent ad we did for one of our Houston-area clients was for the Racing Humans 5K Mud Run on July 2, 2011. Groupon is one of the fastest growing Internet companies which means it’s always adding new features and benefits. This also means that things are changing & can be difficult for a company new to this type of marketing and selling. On the business side, Google attempted to purchase Groupon for over $6 Billion, but Groupon turned down the offer.
Then Came LivingSocial
LivingSocial is the largest competitor to Groupon. Like Groupon, it has a variety of daily deals, but also groups these into categories for easier identification. These categories include Escapes, Families, & Adventures. On the business side, Amazon.com is a major investor in LivingSocial.
Get Ready for Google Offers
When Google was turned down by Groupon, Google continued their efforts to launch their own daily deal marketing services. The result is Google Offers. This program is still in BETA and rolling out in limited cities, but will have the added advantage of combining a number of successful and new Google services: Google Checkout, Google Wallet, Google Profiles, Google +, Google Maps and more. This is the service that should have Groupon and LivingSocial staying awake at nights. In the end, customer service with the vendors will likely win the day.
